What
point of view did Chinatown
had emphasized to Daikyo
Co., Ltd., and what
part did Daikyo Co.,
Ltd.understood and decided
to sell the land. |
 |
 First
of all, we asked Daikyo
Co., Ltd. if they recognize
what kind of environment
is the land at, and
told them that it is
a problem to construct
an apartment here, though
we have never opposed
to it in the past. The
destination is right
in the middle of the
main street which connects
China Town and Motomachi,
and constructing an
apartment may stop the
development of "South
Gate Silk Road"
and also decline China
Town. It might be a
matter of life and death
for the merchants and
the shopping district
of the street. It may
cause a break down of
the community by losing
communication between
the periphy and the
studio type apartment
residents. These awareness
of the problems made
a solidarity to the
area. |
 |
 |
What
kind of a problem would
have occurred if Daikyo
Co., Ltd. had forced
the construction? |
 |
 It
would be impossible
to have vehicle-free
hours on the street,
because parking lot
is required to be made
in a large apartment
by law. The excitement
of the street would
be lost if an apartment
appears. According to
China Town adjoining
Yamashita Park, Lion
Dance, which is a traditional
Chinese culture are
being practiced in the
park. The drum sound
would be a noise, and
the residents would
claim on the conversation
on the street that might
violate their sleep.
It is clear that Lion
Dance would never come
out if these problems
should occur. If the
software of traditional
culture disappears,
China Town would trace
the same destiny. As
Japanese law is for
the inhabitant, the
drum must be stopped
if anyone calls the
police about the sound
being too noisy. It
is also clear that the
residents of the apartment
would complain about
the smell and noise
of the banquet or parties
because their neighbors
are restaurants.
 We
tried to persuade them
by these problems. We
gently asked Daikyo
Co., Ltd to correspond
by common sense, otherwise
Yokohama China Town,
which is a No.5 visiting
spot in a whole country
would fail to a boring
town, due to the present
law that is not made
for protecting the town.
We kept on negotiate
patiently with them
by telling those problems,
and that we don't want
to fight or make a campaign
for opposition. However,
we are prepared to solve
the problem, and believe
that Daikyo Co., Ltd
does not want the China
Town to fall down. It
was inestimable for
their decision of selling
the land. |
 |
 |
How
much will it become?
(it was told as one
billion yen in another
newspaper) Is Yokohama
Chinatown Development
Association going to
bear it? |
 |
The
amount is about 990
million yen. The Association
is not the one to purchase
it, but a new association
that is going to build
the shrine has been
organized by the member
of a citizen-based town-planning
group called Yokohama
Ma Zhu Miao. We would
collect a contribution
from all over country
as well as building
Guan Di Miao. |
 |
 |
How
do you describe "Ma
Zhu Miao" plainly?
|
 |
The
Goddess in Ma Zhu Miao
is god to protect the
sea and she is very
famous at coast areas.
There is one enshrined
in Hakone Kannnon in
Japan, and a parade
of Ma Zhu was held on
this May 5th. A parade
is grandly held in Nagasaki.
Another one is enshrined
in Sofukuji, Nagasaki.
It is also a shrine
which is most popular
within women in Hong
Kong. |
 |
 |
Who
was first one to worship
Ma Zhu Miao in Japan?
|
 |
It is said to be worshipped
by Mito state councilor
(usually called as Mito
Komon) in 1690, Edo period. |
